An old-timer system with modern working platforms

01/2020
After a short assembly time on site, we handed over two scissor lifting platforms to our customer Liebherr-France SAS in Colmar, France.

This is already our second order in the lifting platform business area, which we successfully completed at the plant in Alsace. Two years ago it was a vertical bridge-guided platform for use in a wash cabin, but now it was time to retrofit the existing painting cabin. Wall mounted scissor lifting platforms were used. These are characterized in particular by the fact that almost any position in the booth can be reached from the platform cage. Thanks to the scissor function, for example, the platform can be moved up to 4 m into the middle of the cabin, which enables optimum painting results due to the ideal positioning of the painter in relation to the component. The safety devices correspond to the latest best available technology and thus represent active accident prevention.
The SLF scissor lifting platform is a proven product from SLF, which is used in many plants around the globe. "A particular challenge was the integration of the new system components into the existing cabin," says Lothar Haase, project manager and expert for lifting work platforms. After all, the existing cabin is more than 20 years old and was not originally designed for additional load introduction. Nevertheless, by intensive planning and clever detail solutions, the steel construction of the cabin could be reinforced and extended by the necessary rails.
The successfully completed project at Liebherr shows that the entire cabin does not always have to be replaced. "Sometimes it is also sufficient to upgrade a still well-functioning old-timer with modern plant technology in order to meet the latest standards in occupational safety matters for the employees. This ultimately leads to an increase in quality and productivity," says Mickael Billon, responsible for surface technology at Liebherr-France, enthusiastically.
